Abie

English Setter · Female · Young · 1 year

Abie is a 1-year-old English Setter who weighs 17kg. She is a young English Setter full of life, with a big heart and always ready to share good times with her family. At first glance, she may seem a bit reserved with people she doesn't know. But once she trusts you, she is a real love bomb! My character: Very close to humans, she loves cuddles and gives kisses without counting. She craves contact and would probably be very happy in a present family, perhaps with respectful children, with whom she could share her affection and games. Playful and dynamic, Abie likes being invited to play and always responds enthusiastically. She is also very sociable with other dogs. She lives with two cats and the cohabitation goes well, although sometimes she tends to chase them for fun... depending on the cat's temperament! Abie is full of energy and looks for an active family, even sporty. She has already been introduced to cani-VTT, an activity she loves. Long walks, hikes or canine activities will make her happy. In her foster home, she is a clean dog who knows how to stay alone without doing mischief, without destruction or uncleanliness, even in the absence of her canine companion. She knows basic commands ("sit", "lie down", "stay", "come"), but also several indications used in cani-VTT like "right", "left", "slowly" or "go". I like / I don't like: On the other hand, she tends to pull on the leash during walks, a point that will require some work. Abie does not yet appreciate car rides and can tremble during the trip, although she is slowly progressing on this point. Like many dogs, she barks when people pass in front of the house to warn them of their presence. It would therefore be best to avoid leaving her outside without supervision if you live close to neighbors. For safety reasons, she has never been left free in an unfenced area. The few times she accidentally escaped, she quickly returned on recall, which is very encouraging, although it will need to continue to be worked on. Abie looks for an active, affectionate and committed family who will offer her beautiful adventures, tenderness and time to pursue her education. In return, she will give you all her joie de vivre, her sweetness and unwavering loyalty.

About Abie

What life with Abie looks like

Abie is a young adult english setter dog waiting at APAA Trégrom in France.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. APAA Trégrom handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — APAA Trégrom will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Abie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with APAA Trégrom early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
