adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Abigail is a female dog who, despite everything, has never stopped believing in the good. What she has experienced would break many others – but she has remained as she is: gentle, friendly, and full of trust in people. The approximately 10.5-year-old (ca. 65–70 cm) dog lady spent many years of her life on a short chain – without affection, without care. After her rescue, she was fattened up at an animal clinic and could gain weight from about 32 kg to around 40 kg. A tumor on her leg was surgically removed, during which a toe had to be amputated – in everyday life, she gets along well and moves safely. The tumor was malignant (plattenepithelkarzinom), but the necessary follow-up care has already been provided. Now, Abigail is ready for the next step – for a life outside of cages. And yet, Abigail is simply loving. She is cuddly, people-oriented, and very approachable, actively seeking the company of humans and enjoying every pat. She also shows friendliness and calmness with children. For her age, she is still pleasantly active, already walking on a leash – sometimes still a bit powerfully, simply because she loves to be there. Important to know: Abigail is not compatible with other dogs and therefore wants to enjoy her home as a single princess. She does not need another dog – the person by her side is the most important for her. Currently, Abigail is in the shelter in Romania, alone in a confined space – a place that does not suit her gentle and people-oriented nature. Abigail is microchipped, vaccinated, and travels with an EU pet passport. She will be rehomed on a grace basis. A loving foster home would also be a great chance for her to leave the shelter quickly. What Abigail needs now is not a perfect home – but people who can show her that she has finally arrived. Many thanks, Nicole! Your nametag was the starting gun for a new life! Many thanks, Tanja A.! You support Abigail with a monthly paternity! A big thank you also goes to Isabelle E., who has also taken on a monthly paternity for Abigail. As of: 23.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Tanja A.! Stand: 23.04.2026

About Abigail

What life with Abigail looks like

Abigail is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abigail, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abigail?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abigail on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abigail if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Abigail already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abigail isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abigail and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
