Hoi, ik ben New York! Ik ben niet alleen een prachtige dame om te zien, maar heb ook een heel zacht en lief karakter. Ik ben nog wat verlegen en de grote mensenwereld vind ik soms behoorlijk indrukwekkend. Daarom bekijk ik nieuwe dingen het liefst eerst rustig vanuit mijn veilige plekje. Maar vergis je niet: achter mijn verlegen koppie zit een ontzettend lief en speels meisje verstopt! Mijn maatje Maggie weet dat als geen ander. Zij weet mij regelmatig uit mijn tent te lokken voor een potje spelen. Soms lig ik heel onschuldig te doen alsof ik slaap, om haar vervolgens ineens een paar lieve likjes te geven. Ook een speelstokje met franjes kan ervoor zorgen dat ik mijn voorzichtigheid even helemaal vergeet. En er is nóg iets waarmee je mij heel gelukkig maakt: buikkriebels! Als ik eenmaal lekker gekriebeld word, rol ik gewoon op mijn rug zodat je overal goed bij kunt. Mijn verlegenheid lijkt dan ineens verdwenen. Waar andere kittens misschien hun nageltjes tevoorschijn halen als je hun buik aanraakt, geef ik juist lieve likjes terug. Dat is mijn manier om te laten merken dat ik ervan geniet. Iedere ochtend en avond heb ik bovendien een klein verwenmomentje met wat paté. Soms moet je mij eerst even uit mijn comfortabele mandje halen, maar zodra ik voor mijn eten zit, weet ik niet hoe snel ik moet beginnen. Bij nieuwe mensen ben ik nog voorzichtig en maak ik mezelf het liefst een beetje klein. Toch mag je mij rustig aaien. Als je heel goed luistert, hoor je dan zelfs een zacht tevreden knorretje. Je moet wel goed luisteren, want naast het luide motortje van Maggie is dat van mij maar een bescheiden geluidje. Op schoot zitten kan ik al, maar dan zoek ik het liefst een warm en veilig plekje in het hoekje van je arm. Ik heb gewoon nog wat tijd nodig om te ontdekken dat de wereld buiten mijn vertrouwde omgeving helemaal niet zo spannend hoeft te zijn. Andere katten bekijk ik rustig en honden ken ik alleen van een afstandje. Een thuis met jonge, drukke kinderen past op dit moment niet zo goed bij mij. Rustige oudere kinderen die mij voorzichtig benaderen, zouden wel bij mij kunnen passen. Mijn ideale thuis bestaat vooral uit lieve, geduldige mensen die niets van mij verwachten en mij op mijn eigen tempo laten groeien. Mensen die blij zijn met ieder klein stapje dat ik zet en mij laten ontdekken hoe fijn aandacht en gezelschap kunnen zijn. Mijn maatje Maggie helpt mij daar nu al enorm bij.
