Adopt Affen

Female

Alison and Aladdin Alison is a female Japanese macaque, whom we took in from a husbandry facility that was anything but state-of-the-art: tiled floors, steel pipes, little light. She was meant to serve as a partner for an old boar macaque male, but it didn’t work out. There were fights, and Alison had to be separated. When we took her in, she was severely behaviorally disturbed, apathetic, and lived in a world of fear, sitting motionless in one spot for days on end and rocking back and forth. Only slowly did she adapt to an open-air enclosure, sensory stimuli, human affection through the caretakers, mental stimulation, and an ape life. Soon she received the company of a male provided by the Wilhelma in Stuttgart, Aoki. So Alison found her way back into life and has become a dominant, lively, and active female macaque, living and acting “completely normal.” Unfortunately, Aoki passed away. A pairing with Nele, a female from the Zoo and Exotic Animal Shelter in Ansbach, was ended by her early heart failure. But since spring 2022, there has been HIM: Aladdin, a male from a small zoo, where he, like Aoki, lived alone after the death of his partner animals. Both are getting along well at the bars already, and we hope that the two redfaces will still have a long life together. Our two, however, do not like to bathe and have no tendencies towards a hot bath like a group of wild-living fellow animals in Japan. Wissenschaftlicher Name: Macaca fuscata Stationsnummer: 427/22 Gefahrtier: Nein Weiteres: weiblicher Japanmakake "Alison"

About Affen

What life with Affen looks like

Affen is a adult animal waiting at Auffangstation für Reptilien, München e. V. in Germany.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Affen far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Affen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Affen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Auffangstation für Reptilien, München e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Affen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Affen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Auffangstation für Reptilien, München e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Affen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Affen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Auffangstation für Reptilien, München e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Affen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
