Adopt Africa

Maltese · Female · Adult · 5 years

Africa – a charming Maltese dog is looking for patient people with kind hearts. The enchanting Maltese dog Africa has only been with her foster family in Germany for a short time and is still at the beginning of her new life. Much is unfamiliar and unknown to her, which is why she is currently a rather shy and cautious little dog. Yet behind her uncertainty lies a gentle soul that will gradually open up with calmness, patience, and love. Africa needs to learn what it means to live in a home. Everyday things like walks, environmental stimuli, or walking on a leash are still new to her, but she is already making small progress and learning each day. In addition, she is housebroken and shows herself to be a very pleasant, calm dog in interactions. Africa gets along very well with other dogs. A friendly and confident first dog would certainly help her find her way more quickly and gain trust. Also, a securely fenced garden would be a great gift for Africa, as she could arrive at her own pace and gain security there. For Africa, we wish a quiet home with understanding people who give her the time she needs. Young children should not live in the household, whereas older and calm children would certainly not be a problem. Africa is not looking for adventures – she is looking for people who show her that the world can also be beautiful and safe. Who will lovingly accompany the small Maltese lady on her journey into her new life?

About Africa

What life with Africa looks like

Africa is a large adult maltese dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Africa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Africa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Africa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Africa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Africa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Africa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Africa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
