Agent

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Agent, a dog born in September 2023. Agent is a young, somewhat peculiar dog after going through some transitions. He arrived at our shelter in a very poor physical and mental condition. He was so mistrustful that he couldn't be touched, and when we tried to approach him, he panicked and ran away in fear. His severely emaciated frame indicated that he hadn't had a proper meal or care for a long time. Of course, he couldn't walk on a leash and the sight of one only intensified his fear. We knew that we had a challenging task ahead, and socializing Agent would likely take a long time. Initially, we wanted him to gradually get used to his new living place and his new caretakers. Given that he had experienced hunger multiple times, Agent was very thin on food, especially on the treats we tried to earn his trust. It seemed that this strategy worked because after some time, he began to eat straight from our hands. Next, he allowed us to pet him, and later, we started taking him out to our shelter yard. He quickly found his place there, although not many dogs responded to him fully. We noticed that Agent clearly tolerated more gentle, soothing movements and such company suited him. After our diet, the dog significantly improved his condition and now weighs around 17 kilograms. He is certainly not as nervous as he used to be, but he still fears sudden movements and loud noises. He approaches the caregiver on his own only when the caregiver kneels down to him. He doesn't like being on a leash, but after a few tries, it can be put on him. Walking with him is still a bit troublesome because he sometimes stops and needs to be petted to continue, or we need to kneel down to him. It definitely needs to be practiced more with him, and a quieter environment would be beneficial because the barking of other dogs distracts him. It's amazing that now he can even be picked up, and the dog doesn't protest at all. Of course, due to his weight, this is not the easiest and only a temporary solution. The little dog has grown to love us so much that he often licks our hands, as if to thank us for our care. Agent is more of a moderately barking dog and usually has a clear reason to do so. He is also not overly active, but sometimes likes to run around. We will definitely need to work with him more to fully trust humans, and an animal shelter is not the best place for that. He needs constant care and human company in a quiet and peaceful environment. He needs to forget all the bad that has happened to him. We are looking for a good and responsible person who will take care of our Agent and surround him with the love he deserves. Agent is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Agent, pies urodzony we wrześniu 2023r. Sam Agent należy raczej do umiarkowanie szczekliwych psów i przeważnie musi mieć wyraźny powód żeby to robić. On potrzebuje stałej opieki i towarzystwa człowieka w ciszy i spokoju. Musi zapomnieć o całym złu które go spotkało.

About Agent

What life with Agent looks like

Agent is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Agent, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Agent?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Agent on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Agent if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Agent already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Agent isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Agent and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
