adoption requirements adoption process Now meet Ajax and Boober! Their story: Ajax's life story is quite captivating. The ten-year-old tomcat was in the possession of a sick lady who also housed around 12-15 other cats and 20 dogs. Although she did her best to take care of the animals, her illness unfortunately prevented her from doing so. All the cats lived together in a small room without water, food, or a litter box. When the police intervened and freed the cats from their dire situation, they had to realize that many of the cats unfortunately did not survive the conditions… Ajax arrived at our foster home, along with Boober, emaciated and with infected teeth. Some of his teeth had to be removed, which is why his tongue sometimes pokes out of his mouth. Currently, he does well with dry food, but it is to be expected that he will eventually need to be fed exclusively with wet food. Despite his terrible background, Ajax is extremely friendly, playful, and cuddly. He enjoys cuddles and, despite his age, encourages his fellow animals to play and frolic! Since Ajax greatly appreciates the company of other cats, he would not be a good candidate for solitary living. Ajax feels most comfortable in the secure four walls and can do without going outside. However, he would surely appreciate a cat-safe netted balcony. Ajax is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. He also possesses an EU pet passport and is now ready for his hopefully final move. Many thanks to Martina N. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Ajax

What life with Ajax looks like

Ajax is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ajax, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ajax?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ajax on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ajax if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ajax already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ajax isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ajax and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
