Adopt Ajtor

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Ajtor is not waiting in the shelter, but in a small private station in Hungary. There, a private animal protector takes care of her shooters – as good as it is. But unfortunately, their health problems are now creating and the supply of the many dogs is becoming increasingly difficult. That is why we want to support and try to help some of their dogs – including Ajtor to create a new, better life. A life that will do justice to them and in which they can finally get right. Ajtor is the brother of Argo and Alma – and of the three siblings the one who will need the most time, patience and understanding. In the dog group he goes super with, is tolerated and oriented towards his fellows. But in dealing with us people, he is still very difficult. Ajtor is shy, sometimes anxious, often uneasy and doesn't know how to deal with new situations or proximity. He has so far been able to get to know too little – and so much for him is still strange or even scary. What Ajtor needs now is a quiet environment without children, without big city hectic – a home in the country or in a quiet peripheral location would be ideal. Even if we do not require experienced dog owners, we are looking for people with healthy dog knowledge, patience and willingness to get involved in it. Ajtor has to be picked up at the beginning – He doesn't need pity, but people who give him time and don't immediately make expectations. With the right mixture of tranquility, stability and loving consequence, Ajtor can also trust and step by step. About Ajtor

What life with Ajtor looks like

Ajtor is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ajtor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ajtor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ajtor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ajtor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ajtor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ajtor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ajtor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
