Halina

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Halina has a sad story in her baggage, which we have already reported on our social media channels. Halina lived with other dogs in a family in Hungary. Then the father died, and shortly after, the mother took her own life. Five children and the dogs were left behind. Four of the children went to their aunt, while the oldest daughter remained alone with the dogs and was completely overwhelmed by the situation. Eventually, our partner animal shelter was asked for help. Today, Halina is waiting along with her puppies Havoc, Hyron, and Hestia at our partner animal shelter Allatbarat in Hungary for a new beginning. Halina is a loving and open-minded dog. She enjoys closeness, affection, and interaction - things that surely have been lacking lately. As a Shar-Pei mix, she may also have some typical characteristics of the breed. Of course, Halina still has a lot to learn - from daily life in her new home to the usual routines of family life. She gets along well with other dogs. We are looking for a loving and suitable home for Halina, where she can finally arrive. People who can give her security and who would like to go through life together with her. People with understanding for the Shar-Pei breed and its particularities would be ideal. Halina simply wishes for a home where she can start anew and where a full and varied life awaits her. About Halina

What life with Halina looks like

Halina is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Halina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Halina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Halina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Halina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Halina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Halina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Halina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
