Akila

Akita · Female · Adult · 6 years

Akila is a typical Akita with a big heart. She needs some time to get to know new people, but once she feels safe, she shows her true self, a happy, playful, and bouncy girl who spreads lots of joy. She loves working with her nose and really enjoys activities where she can use her natural instincts. In addition, she is very treat-motivated, which makes it fun and rewarding to come up with different adventures with her. As the Akita she is, she is reserved toward new people and needs time to settle in and get used to her new environment in a calm and quiet way. At dog meetings, she can become strong and energetic, but she is also easy to distract because she is so treat-motivated. She is x-rayed and has mild hip dysplasia, which means it is important that she is kept in good shape with the right weight and muscle tone. This lady is looking for a home filled with safety, calm, and lots of love. She is not used to being alone and therefore thrives best in a home where alone time is minimal. A life on a farm would have suited her perfectly, where she can relax and keep an eye on her surroundings without too much stimulation. She is used to horses and cats, but wants to be the only dog in the home. She can function with dog-friendly children of school age who understand and respect her need for personal space.

SV·Show original

About Akila

What life with Akila looks like

Akila is a adult akita dog waiting at Hundstallet in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundstallet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundstallet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundstallet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
