AKIRA (M) - 12 YEARS - Looking for Adopters BLC W134005172 Characteristics Date of birth: 14/07/2013 Gender: Male Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child friendly: No Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Doesn't know Other friendly: No Character Akira has always lived with his owner, who is disabled, in a small apartment in the center of Le Mans. She used to take him for regular walks, as she is not vehicle-owning; when she was younger, she could take him for walks off-leash. Recently, she fell and broke a vertebra, making walks very difficult (Akira pulls on the leash and she no longer has the strength to hold him back). In short, Akira is a fairly calm and uncomplicated dog; he just needs some space. He doesn't like being treated as a toy. Because Akira is quite reactive to cars, joggers and scooters, a rural environment with a garden would be preferable for him. He is currently overweight and lacks many walks and activities. His coat is full of knots because his owner can't brush it. Story Akira is a 12-year-old dog who lives in a small apartment with his disabled owner, whose condition will not get any better. She wants a more pleasant end of life for her dog. Foster home sought Akira needs a family without children and without other animals if possible. A garden would be a big plus for him, as he doesn't have this opportunity right now; at his age, he won't need intense activity but regular walks and care. He will need time to get used to his new life without being rushed. Adoption Neutered/spayed: No, but will need to be Vaccinated: Yes Identifier: 250 269 802 504 040 Address: Le Mans, France Contact person: Martine Thomas via messenger Email: Share on PinterestShare with your friends Your NameYour EmailRecipient EmailEnter a MessageI read this article and found it very interesting, I think you might like it. About AKIRA

What life with AKIRA looks like

AKIRA is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting AKIRA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about AKIRA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw AKIRA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt AKIRA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is AKIRA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if AKIRA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know AKIRA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
