Adopt Alaska

Husky · Female · Young · 2 years

Alaska is a mixed breed German shepherd x husky female dog, 2 years old. She came to us after her previous owner moved abroad. Alaska is used to living both during the day and at night indoors with access to the garden. She lived with Tayson and it went well. If Tayson received more attention than she could handle, she could be a bit jealous. She doesn't know other pets. Alaska is a very kind and affectionate lady, she is watchful. Alaska is not prone to car sickness. She is housebroken and doesn't chew anything anymore. She can easily stay home alone. The fence in her previous home was 1.80 meters high and she didn't try to escape. The fence must be escape-proof. Now Alaska is looking for a new home. She is looking for people who have some experience with dogs. She absolutely cannot get along with other dogs or animals, so she will be placed as the only pet. She can be placed with children aged 14 years and older. She will only be placed with people where she can always live inside with her family. She will absolutely not be placed to live outside. Alaska is a mix of two active breeds and is looking for active owners. She is looking for owners who want to do a lot with her and afterwards want an extended cuddle session. Who can give our lovely girl the home she deserves?

About Alaska

What life with Alaska looks like

Alaska is a young adult husky dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alaska, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alaska?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alaska on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alaska if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alaska already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alaska isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alaska and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
