Adopt Alaska

Bichon Frisé · Female · Senior · 13 years

Alaska is a lively, lovable, bundle of fun, who despite her age, is looking for a home where she can still get out and about on gentle walks and have lots of fun and play time at home. Alaska prefers not to be left alone for long periods and would benefit from having company for most of the day. In the home, Alaska enjoys a relaxed lifestyle. She’s not interested in toys but is more than happy to nap the day away on a comfy sofa and enjoy a peaceful routine. She travels okay in the car and walks nicely, although she may pull a little when she wants to stop and sniff. Alaska may be an older girl, but she still has lots of love to give. With the right home (one that offers patience, reassurance and a quiet environment) she will make a wonderfully loyal companion and a comforting presence by your side. Alaska is a sweet, gentle 14-year-old Bichon Frise looking for a loving new home to spend her golden years in. Alaska loves everyone she meets and loves dogs too, though despite her age, just wants to play! She loves pottering around outside on short walks, taking in all the smells at her own pace, and then heading back home to curl up on the sofa for a snooze. Treats are definitely a favourite of hers too, and a great way to win her over! Alaska's new home would be a super special one as they would need to have a super big heart to take on an older girl, although she isn't fully ready for retirment yet as she has a lot of love and energy to give!

About Alaska

What life with Alaska looks like

Alaska is a large senior bichon frisé dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alaska, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alaska?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alaska on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alaska if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alaska already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alaska isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alaska and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
