Adopt Alea

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Alea, born in July 2018 – 253468 "Shy Beauty" Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Gender: female, neutered Date of birth: July 2018 In the animal shelter since: December 2023 Gets along with dogs: probably yes (shows interest and is friendly at the fence) Children in the same household: no Home sought: rural The 2018-born, shy American Staffordshire Terrier female dog Alea was initially very shy and reserved. After a getting-to-know phase, she becomes friendly and playful. Due to her insecurity, no children should live in her future home. Alea is very sensitive to noise and therefore seeks a quiet home in the countryside. She shows friendliness towards dogs, as she still cannot carry her muzzle stress-free, and no direct contact has been established yet. Alea is (stress-induced) not house-trained at our animal shelter yet, receives special food (allergy), and has HD. As she is well-muscled, she shows no impairments and currently requires no medication.

Alea- geb.

About Alea

What life with Alea looks like

Alea is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
