Alfi - German Wirehaired Pointer Mix (approx. 60cm) (To ensure your completed interest form is transmitted to us, you must accept the cookies on our website. Otherwise, we will not receive your information.) Alfi is a loving, affectionate, and extremely cuddly dog. Unfortunately, we do not know what brought this cuddly dog to the shelter or what his life has been like so far, as he was transferred from another Greek animal shelter. However, we do know that he loves people and dogs and suffers greatly when he has to return to his kennel after play and fun. Alfi shows no fear of people, allowing anyone to touch him anywhere, and he longs for attention. We cannot say whether Alfi has ever had a home and knows the rules of living together, but like many dogs who have never experienced family life, Alfi is at the beginning of his education. The dog's ABCs, house training, basic obedience, and the rules of living together in a house are still new to him. He will need time to understand what is expected of him, and there will certainly be some setbacks along the way. However, the first shared successes, growing trust, and bond that develops day by day are priceless. Alfi is a dog who particularly saddens us at the shelter. As soon as you enter the room, he begs for attention, but not in an uncomfortable way. Alfi is not a barker, and other dogs are less important to him than human contact. He is a great playmate, and regular contact with other dogs should be available in the new home. If you are looking for a loving, loyal, and intelligent companion, Alfi is the right choice. We have found that Alfi can already fetch and believe he has much more to offer. He learns quickly and enjoys it. Therefore, his new owners should also have a lot of time and pleasure in working with him and providing him with adequate exercise. Alfi is a German Wirehaired Pointer Mix, which means he is part of the hunting dogs that are considered robust, brave, and balanced. We cannot assess Alfi's hunting ambitions within the shelter. The same applies to compatibility with cats or other small animals. A home without house cats and small animals would probably be better for him. Due to his friendly nature, we also see Alfi in a household with children. Due to his size, of which he does not always seem to be aware, they should already be firm. We will be happy to send videos on request. Alfi travels neutered, vaccinated, with an identification chip, and an EU pet passport. He will be tested for travel diseases before departure. If you rent, you must provide us with a written confirmation from the landlord that keeping a dog is really allowed. This important point should be clarified **BEFORE** the placement inquiry. A written confirmation from the landlord regarding dog keeping is a binding requirement for placement.

About Alfi

What life with Alfi looks like

Alfi is a large adult dog waiting at Paradies für Tiere e.V. in Reutlingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Paradies für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Paradies für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Paradies für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
