Alma

European Shorthair · Female · Kitten

Description Alma the little one lived—or rather, barely lived—in a garage. It was her animal shelter, her home, the best she had found to try to survive, to find refuge from the harsh weather and the abuse that many street cats endure. So pretty, so affectionate, so special, she caught the attention of someone who rescued her and contacted us to take her off the harsh street and offer her a chance at life. Alma is a quiet and sweet cat who just wants some cuddles and yummy paté. She’s the first to greet and welcome volunteers at the door, and she gets along well with her feline companions, with whom she loves to bask in the sun. She tested positive for Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV), which will likely make it harder to find a family for her as quickly as she deserves, given how incredible she is. Giving a home to a cat with FeLV is a step away from the stigma these animals face due to their condition and a step toward the “normalcy” of their adoptions. Don’t think about it and come meet her, come meet Alma.

About Alma

What life with Alma looks like

Alma is a puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Keywords in Spain.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Keywords handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Keywords will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Keywords early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
