Adopt Amber (vermittelt)

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

In the ages provided here, it often involves estimated values as we do not always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. Amber, born in December 2017, female dog, mixed breed, medium to large size, foster home. Amber, now Fräulein Smilla, has developed into a city mouse…. We are so happy that after this long wait in Spain, we found such a wonderful home for Amber so quickly. Amber arrived at her foster home and is much less fearful than expected. She lives together now with three other dogs and a cat. She is very clearly interested in people, is easy to handle, and enjoys cuddles. During walks, she is still quite excited and unsure…she has not yet learned anything…. She often stands for minutes, observing her surroundings and what the other dogs are doing. She always stays close to people, is already quite well-controlled, and can already follow commands such as "sit" and "stay." So far, no prey drive has been observed. She is very clever and learns very quickly. In the house, she is more quiet and house-trained. We believe she will do well as a single dog, as she focuses more on people than on the other dogs at the foster home. Which people will give her security and help Amber develop into the wonderful dog she truly is? Amber had no friendly people or environmental stimuli before. She likely lived in a pen, existing as a potential breeding machine. She lived for a long time in the small dog boarding facility of Marcos in Almeria and experienced for the first time that people could also be good to her. Slowly, she thawed a little and spent most of her time with her dog friend Andy in an outdoor run. Unfortunately, she also did not learn much new here. Finally, after 1.5 years…. Andy found a wonderful foster home, and we threw our reservations overboard, hoping she could travel with Andy. …and what can we say…. She and Andy are such wonderful dogs…. and it breaks our hearts that they had to wait so long for a second chance. About Amber (vermittelt)

What life with Amber (vermittelt) looks like

Amber (vermittelt) is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amber (vermittelt), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amber (vermittelt)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amber (vermittelt) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amber (vermittelt) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amber (vermittelt) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amber (vermittelt) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amber (vermittelt) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
