Adopt América

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten

Description AMÉRICA, or the curse of positive cats. América is a young, super healthy, very handsome, good-natured, and affectionate cat who has been with us since he was a kitten. It’s very rare that a cat like him doesn’t get adopted in his first few months, in fact, there were numerous applications but all faded away when he tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. All his promising future in a sweet home crumbled in an instant. The veterinarian and volunteers were devastated by the result, as we know there are very few people capable of looking beyond his condition. América had a lot of luck in his first few months of life, he was in a foster care home where he was given all the love he deserved but by circumstances, he couldn’t stay there and had to be admitted to the animal shelter. The one who was the pampered child in his temporary home is suffering a hard adaptation to the facility with his other positive companions. Being positive is more than a condition. Being positive doesn’t mean that he has to "suffer," as he can have a completely normal, good life with proper nutrition, vaccinations, and love. A lot of love is the recipe for him to have the best life. As for the possibility of infecting other cats in the family, we would just like to say that it is really difficult for it to happen, as it should require blood-to-blood transmission, and that in a home with good interactions between them is impossible. If you want to look at América with other eyes than the ones that have fixed on him until now, if you want to give him the opportunity that has been denied him but doubts arise, you only have to contact us. We are many volunteers who, in our homes, have positive and negative cats without any type of contagion in many years of cohabitation.

About América

What life with América looks like

América is a puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Keywords in Spain.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting América, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about América?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Keywords handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw América on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt América if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Keywords will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is América already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if América isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Keywords early rather than rehoming privately; they know América and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
