Amigo

Male · Adult · 5 years

Amigo is a beautiful Shepherd mix with a gentle heart. He was found alone in June 2023 and has lived at the animal shelter since then. There, he shows himself to be a very open, people-oriented, and playful male dog who loves the company of humans. Visitors greet him joyfully, enjoy cuddles, and often invite him to play. Amigo is a large, sturdy, and energetic dog with plenty of energy and enthusiasm for life. He loves to run around, play, and be active. Anyone who enjoys being outdoors and has a love for movement will find in him an ideal companion. Generally, Amigo gets along well with other dogs and currently lives problem-free with a male dog in the yard. The two understand each other very well. At the animal shelter, however, Amigo shows a possible issue around food with other dogs. Therefore, he is currently fed separately from his yard companion as a precaution. Toward people, he does not show this behavior at all – one can always reach into his bowl or touch him while he eats without any problem. It is also important to note that this behavior does not necessarily have to occur in a new home. With patience, calmness, and consistent training, it can be worked on very well. Unfortunately, one can now also notice that the shelter life leaves its mark. Amigo is slowly but surely developing a yard temper. During each of our visits, he often circles the yard – a sight that truly breaks the heart. Therefore, we urgently wish for people who will give him the chance at a real home, peace, and a fulfilling life. Amigo brings everything a faithful family dog needs: he is open, intelligent, cuddly, and longs more than anything for his own people who can give him security, structure, and safety. For Amigo, we are looking for a home with a garden in a quiet, rural environment – with active people who have experience in handling larger, confident dogs, who meet him with love and clear guidance. Who will finally give this wonderful fellow a home or offer him a foster home with an option to adopt? Contact us – Amigo is waiting for his chance to arrive. We will take care of processing it as soon as possible!

DE·Show original

About Amigo

What life with Amigo looks like

Amigo is a large adult dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
