Adopt Ámor

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

More than 2000 days at the shelter! /From July 7, 2017, until today…/ Ámor is a 9-year-old dog who, with the help of a foster parent (for the last 3 years, she joyfully spent them with her), was taken out of her owner's custody with police assistance. She was brought in, having spent her first three years of life in a coop where a compassionate person would have locked in at most two chickens, or maybe not even… with a look of fear, barking, and using her own excrement… Her condition was shocking: severely underweight, with a bald patch, deformed, broken, with missing fur, her skin was covered in sores, and she was visibly ill, with the living creatures around her showing no mercy. She was terrified, not daring to leave the small place where she had lived, it seemed as though she would never leave this place, so they had to take her all the way to the rescue vehicle. It took a long time for her to lose her sense of security, completely unfamiliar with everything that the world represents ☹. In her first two years of life, she left deep marks of trauma in her soul (her body is now in a miraculous state of health and wellness), which made it extremely difficult to find a permanent home. Much more patience and experience are needed, more than with a traumatized dog. There were interested parties, but something always prevented them from living together. A few years ago, one of our volunteers took an interest in her, and since then, they have been building a relationship, and she has made her first steps outside the shelter grounds. Stand here now, and listen to her character, which is also a small "how-to" guide. We never give her up, and even if she sometimes seems to be breaking the rules, we trust that the Real… will come to her. Ámor's life began very poorly, from a young age, both physically and mentally. These things can unfortunately affect her entire life. When she arrived at the shelter, her eyes no longer held any spark. Everyone tried to help her, even if it was just a word, but first, her body needed to be put back in order, which was the easier task. But her mind was so damaged that it took years to regain trust in people. Unfortunately, she still cannot overcome her fear. Ámor is a special dog; she will never lie down on a blanket or lie down, but I know that regardless of this, she is a special good friend. There was a period at the shelter when she played with 7-10 other dogs on a closed-off area. In the summer, when we go for walks, we always sit on the ground—then she, like this, can only come close, and she loves it when I talk to her, it doesn't matter about what, she just listens to the sound. I would recommend her to someone who has a small garden where she can freely eat a little and walk around. She does not require much petting, especially at the beginning. She may need an inside-outside routine. When she is on the floor, it is not advisable to touch her; she will go to the owner herself. Before petting, she must be called by name and wait until she looks at you, then you can pet her head. If a relationship has already formed, she loves it when her back is petted, then when she lies down, the part she does not always like is her paw and neck. If she already allows this, she has accepted her owner. It is very important to have patience, love, and gentleness. Photos: Ámor vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, protected against external parasites, with pre- and post-control, can be adopted to a new home with a contract. To apply: call 06-70-619-93-11 and send a message with your name and contact details.

Ezek a dolgok sajnos kihatnak a teljes életére. Kinti-benti tartás is szóba jöhet.

About Ámor

What life with Ámor looks like

Ámor is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ürömi Állatotthon in Hungary.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ámor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ámor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ürömi Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ámor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ámor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ürömi Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ámor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ámor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ürömi Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ámor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
