Adopt Amy

Female · Young · 1 year

At the animal shelter since: 07.05.2025, found in Wels. Child-friendly: yes, but the children should already be in their teenage years. Gets along with other dogs: rather no. Cat-friendly: no. Weight: ca. 12kg. All-day suitability test (ATP): passed with her volunteer walker Manuela Amy is friendly, cuddly, and enjoys the full attention of her people. She likes to be at the center of attention, loves to cuddle and play, but can be boisterous at times. She has (benign) growths on both ears—likely due to allergies—which impair her hearing and sometimes make her react uncertainly in unfamiliar situations. Therefore, good handling and training are necessary for Amy. Unfortunately, Amy suffers from HD (hip dysplasia) bilaterally and has a food intolerance. According to the test, she can only tolerate pork, wild boar, rabbit, and pheasant. There should be no cats and small children in the same household. For her future owners, dog experience is definitely necessary. Amy wishes for a new home in a quiet location—ideally a house with (escapement-proof) garden—by patient, dog-experienced, and caring people.

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia (bilateral), hearing impairment due to ear growths (likely allergic), food intolerance - only tolerates pork, wild boar, rabbit and turkey

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
