Hi! My name is Ann, a cheerful and curious Japanese quail. With my quick legs and soft flapping, I love to run around all day with my friends! I'm looking for a new home with a few nice girlfriends. Japanese quails are social birds and we feel best in a "hen group" (or with at most one rooster, otherwise we get into fights!). Together we love to scratch and dig. I dream of a spacious, covered run where we are protected from wind and rain. A draft-free night enclosure with a thick layer of dry hemp fiber or wood shavings is a must. And yes: did you know I can fly straight up if I'm scared? A soft or high enough roof is very important so I don't bump my head! My absolute favorite treat? A delicious sand bath! Put a large bowl of fine sand down and I'll show you a hilarious "bath dance" to keep my feathers clean and parasite-free. I'm easy to feed, but I need the right food: special poultry or quail feed with enough protein. I also need grit to digest my seeds, and some grit is great for strong eggshells. Hoi! Mijn naam is Ann, een vrolijke en nieuwsgierige Japanse kwartel. Met mijn snelle pootjes en zachte geklapwiek ren ik het liefst de hele dag gezellig rond! Ik ben op zoek naar een fijn nieuw thuis met een paar leuke vriendinnetjes. Japanse kwartels zijn namelijk echte groepsdieren en we voelen ons het prettigst in een ‘hennen-groepje’ (of met hooguit één haantje erbij, anders krijgen we ruzie! ). Samen scharrelen en graven is onze grootste hobby. Ik droom van een ruime, overdekte ren waar we beschut zijn tegen de wind en de regen. Een tochtvrij nachtverblijf met een dikke laag droge hennepvezel of houtkrullen is echt een must. En o ja: wist je dat ik recht omhoog kan vliegen als ik schrik? Een zacht of voldoende hoog dak is heel belangrijk, zodat ik mijn kopje niet stoot! Mijn absolute favoriete verwennerij? Een heerlijk zandbad! Zet een grote schaal met fijn zand neer en ik laat je meteen een hilarische ‘bad-dans’ zien om mijn veren mooi en parasietvrij te houden. Qua eten ben ik makkelijk, maar ik heb wel de juiste voeding nodig: speciaal sierhoender- of kwartelvoer met genoeg eiwitten. Ook heb ik maagkiezel nodig om mijn zaadjes te verteren, en voor sterke eierschalen is wat grit heel fijn. Af en toe een meelwormpje of een stukje groente maakt mijn geluk compleet.
