Adopt Anton

Male · Young · 2 years

Anton is a young male Dalmatian dog (born 12/01/2023) who forms a close bond with his trusted people and is a very affectionate, clingy companion. However, Anton is extremely insecure and easily overwhelmed around strangers and in new environments, which initially causes him to react defensively. In his previous home, he was involved in a bite incident involving a postal worker. His insecurity must be taken seriously and addressed through proper training and guidance. To ensure the safest and most stress-free life possible, Anton should not go to a large household. Therefore, he is looking for a home with experienced dog owners who can provide him with clear leadership, structure, and security. A quiet home without children is essential for him. Anton could potentially get along well with a confident, well-adjusted second dog, from whom he could take cues. Depending on mutual compatibility, he can be tolerant of other dogs. During walks, Anton wears a muzzle, which he accepts without issue and allows to be put on calmly. In his new home, he should continue wearing the muzzle indoors as well—at least during the first few weeks and depending on the situation—for everyone's safety. Anton remains cooperative and stress-free while wearing it. He is a very active and athletic dog who needs both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Regular training sessions with an experienced dog trainer must continue in his new home to further build his confidence and positively support his development. During active training with our dog trainer, Anton shows that he struggles to focus and can only concentrate for short periods. We require prospective adopters to actively participate in an on-site meet-and-greet with Anton. Anton has not been exposed to cats so far. We are seeking patient, responsible, and experienced individuals who are willing to lead him with love but firmness, and who will give him the time he needs to build trust.

About Anton

What life with Anton looks like

Anton is a large young adult dog waiting at Tierheim Ulm in Ulm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ulm handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ulm will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ulm early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
