Adopt Anton

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Willing to learn, cuddly, playful, retrieves, jogs alongside and knows how to run next to a bicycle or e-scooter. Anton spent the first months of life on the street and had negative experiences with other dogs and men. A lot of time was invested in his upbringing, and some fears were able to be alleviated. He lived with a family for 5 years (growing up with two toddlers), but due to changes in living conditions, he was rehomed and has now come back. Unfortunately, Anton cannot stay there as the burden is too great. Regarding his behavior: Anton is easy to train, he is eager to learn and wants to spend a lot of time with "his" people. He has two challenges: one is dog encounters (with some dogs, he barks and rushes forward, but can be easily corrected) and he is skeptical/uncertain around strangers, having already snapped once (in new situations and in the city, he wears a muzzle for safety). He shows a clear prey drive. Therefore, off-leash without an enclosure is conditionally possible, as well as small animals in the new home. Anton can be left alone for a few hours, travels without problems in the car (even long distances), behaves calmly at home, occasionally seeks cuddles or initiates play. He loves to retrieve, whether on land or in water. Once you have gained his trust, he is a wonderful companion. Anton will only be placed in experienced hands. He comes with a muzzle. If interested, please contact Frau Römer. He is located in the district of Lichtenfels.

About Anton

What life with Anton looks like

Anton is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Forchheim in Forchheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Forchheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Forchheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Forchheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
