🐶 ANTONIO IN UK FOSTER - SOUTHPORT🐶 🐾 Looking for a very special home for a very special boy 🐾 Every so often a foster dog comes along who quietly works his way into your heart, and this little boy has certainly done that. Saying goodbye to him is going to be incredibly hard, but now it’s time to find the family who will love him as much as we do. ❤️ This little boy hasn't had the easiest start in life. He came from the Dăieni public shelter in Romania, where hundreds of dogs were living in incredibly difficult conditions, before being taken to safety by his rescuers and eventually making the long journey to the UK. Considering what his life looked like only a short time ago, watching him discover what it means to live in a home has been incredibly special. He arrived as a shy, nervous little soul, unsure of people and of what life in a home was all about. But underneath those nerves is the sweetest, most affectionate little boy who desperately wants to love and be loved. He has learned about soft beds, full tummies, toys and — most importantly — that humans can be kind. He can still be shy when he first meets someone, so he needs a family who will give him a little time and allow him to make friends at his own pace. But once he decides you're safe, that's it — you have a best friend. 🥹 He absolutely loves cuddles and kisses and wants nothing more than to be close to his human. There are still things in this big new world that worry him and sometimes he needs a little reassurance, but every day we're seeing more of the funny, loving and affectionate little dog that was hiding underneath those nerves. He's also discovered that sofas are quite possibly one of life's greatest inventions and is now very much a fan of the comfy life! 😂❤️ 🐶 He has gained so much confidence from living with his foster fur siblings, so we feel he would really benefit from having a friendly, confident resident dog to show him the ropes. We would consider a home without another dog, but his humans would need to be around a lot as companionship is very important to him. 🏡 He is almost fully housetrained, although his new family should expect that he may take a few steps backwards while he settles into a completely new environment. 🐾 He has been left at home for a few hours and has not been destructive or noisy. He sleeps quietly all night in his bed as well. 🦴 He is very food motivated, which makes him keen to learn and should really help with his ongoing training. 🦮 He has started going out wearing a harness and walking on lead. This is still very new to him, so his new family will need to continue gently building his confidence and helping him learn that the outside world isn't quite so scary. He has travelled quietly in the car, using a harness and safety belt. His past explains why he needs a little patience, but it absolutely doesn't define the dog he's becoming. What this boy needs most isn't perfection. He needs kindness, patience, reassurance and someone willing to give him the time he needs to blossom. In return, I genuinely think you will get the most wonderful little companion. Watching him learn to trust, relax and realise that humans can mean safety, cuddles, full tummies and a warm spot on the sofa has been an absolute privilege. He came here as my foster dog. He's leaving with a piece of my heart. ❤️🐾 So his next home needs to be the one he deserves — his forever one.

About Antonio

What life with Antonio looks like

Antonio is a large adult dog waiting at Penny in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Antonio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Antonio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Penny handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Antonio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Antonio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Penny will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Antonio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Antonio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Penny early rather than rehoming privately; they know Antonio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
