Adopt Api

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 14 years

I am Api, a friendly, social tomcat looking for great happiness. That’s me: I am friendly, loving, and cuddly, enjoy the closeness with my people, and like to be right in the middle of things. Despite my age, I am still active and bring a beautiful mix of calm and enthusiasm. I was given to the animal shelter because of unsanitation – here it has been discovered that I need a higher litter box (I am a so-called stander). And I have kidney insufficiency. So far, I have been completely clean in the animal shelter. 😊 I wish for a quiet home, preferably without much chaos and with a person where I can feel accepted and who has a lot of time for me. I usually get along better with women than with men. I would like to live as a single tomcat. A spacious apartment (at least 60 sqm) with a balcony (secured) would be ideal. What’s most important is that my home is stable, quiet, and reliable. Let’s cuddle in the future?

About Api

What life with Api looks like

Api is a large senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Note from the shelter: Kidney insufficiency requiring lifelong treatment, needs higher litter box due to standing urination behavior

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Api, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Api?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Api on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Api if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Api already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Api isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Api and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
