Adopt Apollo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Apollo is just about two years old, but has already endured more suffering than any dog should have to endure. Found emaciated, frail, and covered in wounds, with a painful congenital deformity that had already begun to grow before anyone could help him. Three orthopedic specialists confirmed the same thing - it was too late for surgery. However, from the very first moment, Apollo showed only kindness. Without anger, without fear, and without mistrust towards people. Just a gentle look, a quiet wag of the tail, and hope that his life will finally change. Day by day, he is recovering and is already beginning to rely on his injured leg again. We believe that time, care, and love will continue to heal what cruelty and neglect have destroyed. But what Apollo's heart most aches for is his character. Astonishingly calm, gentle, and full of love. In the kennel run, he is well-behaved, nothing destroys his composure, and we hardly ever hear him whine. He adores other dogs and people. After everything he has gone through, Apollo still chose love. Now, he just needs someone who will choose him.

Read original (hr)

Obožava druge pse i ljude. Nakon svega što je prošao, Apollo je i dalje izabrao ljubav. Sada mu treba samo netko tko će izabrati njega. About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azil Dubrovnik in Croatia.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azil Dubrovnik handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azil Dubrovnik will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azil Dubrovnik early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
