Adopt Arabica

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Update 26.06.2025: Arabica was just a little pup, sitting outside a coffee shop, when she was picked up and brought to the shelter. That’s when she was given the name Arabica – after the coffee. Arabica is most likely the sister of Demitasse and just like her, she’s blossomed into a truly beautiful young dog. She weighs 22,3 kg. And yet, somehow, Arabica and her sister have become nearly invisible. It’s time she finally got the attention she deserves. Here’s what you really need to know about our Arabica: She is around one year old now – still young, full of energy and always ready to play with her best friends. Arabica finds so much joy in running, playing and getting into a bit of harmless mischief now and then, but she also knows when to settle down. She has a calm side and loves a good chill session just as much as playtime. Arabica absolutely LOVES people. She enjoys her regular cuddles with our volunteers, it’s the best part of her day! She’s very intelligent and super quick to pick up new things too. Arabica is a medium-sized shepherd mix – beautiful inside and out. Will you be the one to finally see her? To choose her? Her story: Arabica was born in June 2024 and was picked up by Elizabeth while getting a coffee. She was just sitting outside. See video!!! Support Arabica Today! About Arabica

What life with Arabica looks like

Arabica is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arabica, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arabica?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arabica on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arabica if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arabica already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arabica isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arabica and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
