Adopt Archie

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

📍 Current Location: Upper Austria Archie is a neutered mixed-breed male dog born in February 2021 who, as an adult, was surrendered to the animal shelter together with the male dogs Cäsar. His former owner claimed that Archie should be the son of the Malinois male dog Cäsar – whether this is correct cannot be verified. Currently, he lives in Upper Austria. Archie is an alert and agile companion who lives life to the fullest. He is absolutely friendly towards his humans and actively seeks their proximity and affection. He also likes children. Archie wants to be supported and challenged. He loves long walks and is happy about any form of shared outdoor activity. In terms of training, he brings great prerequisites: he walks well on a leash, he is very intelligent and learns quickly, and he is not afraid of everyday noises. In dealing with his fellow animals, Archie shows great compatibility. However, due to his hunting instinct, no cats or other small pets should live in his new home. Archie needs active people who enjoy working with him and guiding his focus playfully. Whoever wants a loyal, intelligent, and lively companion who stands by their side in every life situation will find the ideal companion in Archie. The shoulder height of the male dog is approximately 55 cm and he weighs approximately 23 kg.

About Archie

What life with Archie looks like

Archie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Archie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Archie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Archie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Archie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Archie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Archie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Archie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
