American Bulldog * 09/17/2020 – brown/white – male – neutered – large – approx. 47 kg – gets along with children: yes, gets along with larger children – gets along with cats: no – suitable as a second dog: yes – in the shelter since: 12/2025 Hello, I’m Ares! I’m an American Bulldog and I’m looking forward to finally finding a home where I can truly feel at ease. I love spending time close to my people—petting, meals, and walks together make for the perfect day for me. I’m a sweet, good-natured, and rather relaxed guy. I also enjoy quiet moments and tend to be more of a couch potato than an athlete. That doesn’t mean I’m not eager to learn, though: With a tasty treat, I’m quick to get excited and love working together with my human. Food is definitely the key to my heart. When we’re out for a walk, I’m attentive and alert. If I spot wildlife, I can get quite excited—but that’s why I’d like people who can calmly guide me through such situations and continue training with me. I get along well with other dogs. My best friend at the shelter is Leo. Although we’re totally different—Leo full of energy and me more laid-back—opposites do attract, as they say. I’m very people-oriented and relish every bit of attention. Cuddling is just as much a part of my daily routine as being out and about together. Riding in the car isn’t a problem for me, and I usually handle vet visits patiently and calmly. One little quirk I have: My right eye needs eye drops twice a day. But I let that happen completely relaxed. Also, switching to a new food has done me a lot of good, and my coat has noticeably improved as a result. Oh, and one more thing you should know: As a true Bulldog, drool sometimes just comes with the territory. If that doesn’t bother you, you’ll get a loyal, cuddly, and lovable companion who quickly gives his heart to his people. If you’d like to give a good-natured cuddle-bear a loving home, I’d be thrilled to meet you. About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Göppingen in Göppingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Göppingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Göppingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Göppingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
