Ares

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Ares is a young Belgian shepherd (born in 2023), who arrived at our shelter from the Czerwonak municipality. He came from a home that was unable to meet the basic needs of this demanding breed. For a Belgian, "basics" are not just food and walks. It's daily work, clear rules, and wise guidance. At first, Ares mainly functioned in high emotions. The person associated him with excitement—play and food—which made it difficult for him to calm down and find his place in a more peaceful contact. Today, he is in a completely different place. Thanks to regular work with a trainer, Ares is learning something that this breed finds not at all obvious—relaxing and "doing nothing." He is getting better at handling the leash, beginning to understand the rules of group walks, and is able to calm down. This is still a process, but the direction is very good. He needs a caregiver who will be his guide—a calm, consistent person ready to build a relationship based on understanding, not just activity. This is a dog who gives a lot but also requires a lot. We are looking for a home for Ares: Ares is not a lost or problematic dog. He is a young, wise dog who simply did not have the right support before. Today, he is making huge progress, and it is really worth giving him a chance. Because with the right person, Ares has everything to become an exceptional partner.

To codzienna praca, jasne zasady i mądre prowadzenie.

About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
