Aria

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

April 24, 2019 - Our sweet small female dog lives in her own world but interacts very well with other dogs, she seeks their contact, Aria is a very good small female dog. Unfortunately, she has epileptic seizures, which is why she is undergoing treatment to control this condition. We will do further diagnostic tests as soon as possible. Thank you to those who support us. March 21, 2019 - Aria is the small one that was rescued in a confused state inside a channel in Olbia, hypothermic, wet, disoriented, which at first appeared to be a normal small female dog, but instead has a neurological deficit, so she is blind. Today she was seen by the specialist. The cause of her blindness may depend on cerebral hypoxia. The cold caused the blood not to reach the brain properly, and without sustenance, it goes into hypoxia, and the main regions affected are the occipital lobe where vision resides, and the cerebellum. It's possible that these areas suffered from lack of oxygen supply and became blind because of this. Unfortunately, the sight is not always recovered, as this process can trigger atrophy of the brain wall. The only attempt to recover may be done by giving dietary supplements. In any case, Aria will lead a normal life, naturally, she will develop the other senses better. Moreover, at the animal shelter, she already moves around normally on her own. March 20, 2019 - Aria, as you can see, enjoys herself, she is unique in her calmness. Thursday we took her to the veterinary ophthalmologist to find out the nature of her blindness and you can't imagine our surprise when we found out that actually Aria is not blind. She has a neurological problem, the brain and eyes do not communicate correctly. At this point, a neurological examination is necessary. We have already contacted the specialist, we are waiting for an appointment for the examination. Obviously, we never have a quiet day. We will update you as soon as we have news, meanwhile, we thank those who will help us with the veterinary expenses. March 13, 2019 - Unfortunately today, the little Aria had two long epileptic seizures. We will take her to the clinic for more detailed tests to find out the causes. We know, these tests are expensive, but what can we do? It's not possible to leave her like this. Aria is a very sweet small female dog and she has already suffered too much. March 12, 2019 - Aria is recovering, she eats with great appetite. Thursday we will give you news regarding her vision. Poor little star, how much she has suffered. March 9, 2019 - We received the call, "Madam, do you remember the dog I reported on Sunday that seemed injured and I couldn't find again? He is inside a channel but is very sick and can't get out." We immediately activated to rescue him. Marco went down into the channel from which the dog was clearly stuck, he would never have been able to get out given his condition. Wet and soaked, they arrived at the animal shelter and there was the surprise, it's a little female, very thin and greatly weakened. We are providing her with initial care. As you can see, despite our immense difficulties, we never stop. We called her Aria, like the air we need to survive in this hell on earth. Thank you to those who will help us.

Grazie a chi ci sostiene. Grazie a chi ci aiuterà.

About Aria

What life with Aria looks like

Aria is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
