Arie, neutered reutje, 6 years, height 35 cm. abroad. Background: This nearly blind puppy was found on the street a while back. After multiple calls on social media, it became clear that he belonged to no one, as no one responded. From his behavior, it's evident that he is indeed accustomed to people. It's likely that he was dumped by his owner on the street. A nearly blind puppy! Fortunately, he was found and taken to the vet. The vet checked Arie (blood tests) and declared him completely healthy, aside from his vision. After his visit to the vet, Arie came to the shelter. Character: Arie is an incredibly small and brave little fellow! He doesn't let his near blindness hold him back. We think that with his one eye, Arie can still see some shadows, while the other eye is completely blind. He walks (almost) into nothing, even in a new environment, but it's very difficult for him to take a snack. He takes a big bite when he smells it, which means that sometimes a finger ends up in his mouth. But there's a very easy solution to this: place the snack on the ground. Arie is very enthusiastic and can be very busy dashing around. Once he's a bit more accustomed, he goes to lie down and sleep. When he's in the house, he tries to climb on every chair and stands at the table when food is being eaten. He thus still needs some training. But he is so incredibly loving, and it's touching to see how this little puppy stands up in a difficult environment for him. There are many other (large) dogs, there are many obstacles and steps, and there are a lot of sounds that he has to recognize and interpret to determine who, what, where. As seen in the video, Arie is very intelligent. After a while at a certain place, he knows exactly where the steps are. He also listens to footsteps to recognize who is coming.

Arie, gecastreerd reutje, 6 jaar, hoogte 35 cm. buitenland. Achtergrond Dit nagenoeg blinde hondje werd een tijdje terug op straat gevonden. Na meerdere oproepen op sociale media bleek hij van niemand te zijn want er kwam geen enkele reactie. Arie is echter wel degelijk mensen gewend en waarschijnlijk is hij dus door zijn baasje op straat gedumpt. Een blind hondje! Gelukkig werd hij gevonden en naar de dierenarts gebracht. De dierenarts heeft Arie gecheckt (bloedonderzoeken) en helemaal gezond verklaard. Afgezien dus van zijn gezichtsvermogen. Na zijn bezoek aan de dierenarts is Arie naar de shelter gekomen. Karakter. Arie is een ontzettend klein dapper ventje! Hij laat zich er niet door tegenhouden dat hij nauwelijks iets ziet. We denken dat Arie met zijn éne oog nog een beetje schaduwen ziet, het andere oog is helemaal blind. Hij loopt namelijk (bijna) nergens tegenaan, ook niet als hij in een nieuwe omgeving is. In de shelter is het af en toe best moeilijk want de gazen omheiningen ziet hij niet en daar loopt hij wel eens tegenaan. Traplopen is natuurlijk ook moeilijk. Hij is wel erg pienter en weet precies waar afstapjes zijn en waar hij de bocht om moet. Arie was erg druk toen hij in de shelter kwam. Hij heeft nu zijn plekje gevonden tussen alle andere honden en is een stuk rustiger. Ook is hij het knuffelen steeds meer gaan waarderen! Hij vindt het ontzettend fijn om aandacht te krijgen en is dus ook nooit ver bij je uit de buurt. Als hij in huis is, probeert hij op elke stoel te klimmen en staat bij de tafel omhoog als er gegeten wordt. Hij heeft dus nog wel wat opvoeding nodig. Maar hij is zo ontzettend lief en het is erg aandoenlijk om te zien hoe dit kleine hondje zich overeind houdt in een voor hem moeilijke omgeving. Er zijn veel andere (grote) honden, er zijn veel obstakels en afstapjes en er zijn heel veel geluiden die hij moet herkennen en interpreteren om te bepalen wie, wat, waar is. We gunnen deze kleine dappere dodo een rustiger omgeving met zijn eigen mand. Hij zou prima met een andere hond samen kunnen leven en ook grotere kinderen zal geen probleem zijn. Arie zal natuurlijk nooit los buiten kunnen lopen. Hij houdt wel van rondscharrelen, een goed omheinde tuin zou heel fijn zijn voor hem. Arie is gevaccineerd, gechipt en gecastreerd.
