Adopt Arthur

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Hi, I'm Arthur and I originally come from Romania. Through an adoption family, I ended up at Het Huis van de Dieren. ... In my adoptive family, I experienced a lot of stress. I couldn't settle there and that made me very restless. I would lash out at visitors and walking was very stressful for me. Since I've been living at Het Huis van de Dieren, I've become more and more calm. Here, I show who I really am: a kind, cheerful and funny dog. I get along well with the other dogs in the pack, but I also enjoy sometimes retreating for my own rest moment. Fortunately, I can indicate this myself here. Walking is great and I like to go with the group. New dogs sometimes still seem exciting to me at first. Then I can be a bit abrupt and I defend my spot, my toy, bone or my space. With clear guidance, this is getting better and I am beginning to understand what is expected of me. What I still find difficult is being touched out of the blue. For people I know well, this is no longer a problem, but with strangers I am still alert. The people here expect that this can be improved with further training and guidance. I deserve a quiet and nice home with people who have experience, who want to give me the time and space to adapt, learn and grow further. Will you give me that chance? Then you will get a loyal and special friend back. 🐾

About Arthur

What life with Arthur looks like

Arthur is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arthur, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arthur?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arthur on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arthur if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arthur already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arthur isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arthur and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
