Arwen

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 10 months

Arwen has earned her elven name more than justly. She is a tender and delicate girl of only 10 months (as of 02/2022), and her origin is also a real mystery. Arwen simply appeared one day in the middle of the city. Near a park, the completely emaciated (and at that time anything but white) snowflake begged passersby for attention and help. Desperately, she followed a young man who was on his way to the dog field with his dog. The young rescuer then informed the animal welfare workers of ArcoNatura, who took the friendly princess into their care. Arwen has now been in the animal shelter for two weeks and has settled in very well. Her fur is now again spotlessly clean, but she still needs a few pounds on her still clearly visible ribs. Our little fairy has quickly found her place in the pack of ArcoNatura. Arwen plays just as much as she cuddles, and she is extremely curious when the volunteers come and start their work in the facility. Arwen follows our friends step by step and is very interested in the contents of the pockets ... Arwen is already incredibly calm and balanced for her age, but she certainly shows her athletic side when playing and running, and this is very impressive with sighthounds. Climbing, running, jumping, and hooking, and unlike the Galgos, also very endurance-wise, these are our ear-twitchers, and their wonderful abilities unfortunately also mean that the Andalusian beauties are among the most misunderstood breeds. It's true, the Podenco is a running-loving hunting dog and it can take a long time before a representative of this breed can be safely let off the leash, but this is not a problem that only affects the Podencos (especially since it also depends on the character of the individual dog, as with any breed) and there are plenty of other ways to give the Podenco enough exercise. Dog sports, playing in the garden, also running alongside a bicycle, jogging, and many other things are excellent alternatives. On the plus side of these clever Spaniards, there are many points that are far more interesting. The Podenco is usually an extremely quiet and balanced companion in the house. He does not bark nor does he excessively protect, he moves almost silently and enjoys cuddles above all. As a confident working dog, most learn very quickly how to stay alone without embellishing the furniture out of boredom or adding extra air holes to the family shoes. If you are a fan of our bat ears, if you like to walk long distances, know how to handle a squeaky (okay, he can also be solid colored) ball, have a talent for petting and cuddling, and also have a spot for a warm dog bed near the heater, then please contact us, and we will tell you how our photo model Arwen can soon storm into your heart and of course into your home.

DE·Show original

About Arwen

What life with Arwen looks like

Arwen is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arwen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arwen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arwen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arwen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arwen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arwen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arwen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
