Arya

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 8 years

Aria is a young dog found wandering on public streets in a particularly concerning state. It was a lady who discovered her and immediately brought her to a veterinarian clinic, where she received her first treatments before being entrusted to the our shelter. She had a significant wound on her neck, likely caused by a bite that had progressed into a severe abscess. A portion of the skin had necrosed and fallen off, leaving a large wound that still requires close monitoring today. No one has come forward to claim her, and it is therefore we who have chosen to give her the name Aria, in homage to everything she represents: a true battler, an incredibly resilient dog who, despite her painful past, has never ceased to love life. Aria is above all a concentrated bundle of joy and tenderness. She is full of zest for life, adores sharing moments with humans, and never misses an opportunity to play, especially with her ropes, which she particularly loves. Very close to the people who take care of her, she seeks a lot of contact and interaction. This closeness to humans also makes it difficult for her to be alone. She will therefore appreciate a family present, ready to accompany her gradually in this learning process. Despite this difficulty, she does not seem to be a destructive dog: her toys and her basket are respected, proof that she knows how to channel her energy when she is well surrounded. Today, Aria continues her convalescence thanks to a Phovia treatment, a therapy using blue light to stimulate and accelerate the regeneration of her skin. This treatment represents a significant cost, but it allows her to advance a little more each day toward her recovery.

About Arya

What life with Arya looks like

Arya is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
