Adopt Asik

Unknown · Adult · 7 years

Our Abyssinian of Ukrainian origin was surrendered to the animal shelter in late January 2023 due to a drastic change in temperament. The tomcat attacked the owner so severely that the family decided to seek help from the animal shelter. During the first few days, Asik was in quarantine with us, where he was vaccinated and thoroughly checked. No illnesses were found. Typically, he is very intelligent, temperamental, curious, and easily bored. Asik has become a total cuddler and loves everyone. However, his mood can change from one moment to the next. Then he falls back into old behavioral patterns and reacts aggressively and stressed. He is a total control freak and must closely observe every step of his people and be present everywhere. When there are then two people in the household who both need to be monitored, he quickly becomes stressed. To help him out of this behavioral pattern, he must be forcibly brought into his own room. He needs such a retreat place in his new home as well. Blocking him out may sound harsh at first, but it clearly benefits him. He is also allowed to walk in the hallways of the cat shelter with us. If it becomes too much for him, we bring him back to his room. He also accepts this routine gratefully and usually comes willingly. The room does not need to be huge. A scratching post, a den, a litter box, a plush rug, and food and water should fit in. He should primarily be able to rest and sleep in the room. It will be a long road until you know all his quirks, when you should leave him alone, or when you need to be strict. If you get to know him and there is mutual trust and respect, Asik is an absolute soul cat. We wish for Asik experienced cat owners with plenty of experience and no children in the household. Abyssinians have their quirks, and we would be particularly happy with applicants who have experience with this breed. His new people must bring a lot of time and visit the handsome tomcat multiple times to get to know him well. He needs immediate free roam and a place as a solo prince because the socialization with our cats unfortunately did not last very long harmoniously. If he gets well accustomed, however, we cannot rule out that he could get along with a very laid-back buddy. We often take him for walks on a leash and have noticed that our bunnies do not actually interest the originally so curious tomcat at all. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Asik

What life with Asik looks like

Asik is a extra-large adult cat waiting at Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Asik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Asik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Asik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Asik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Asik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Asik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Asik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
