Asterix

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Asterix has been part of the Arca family for 5 weeks now. The wonderful and exceptional mixed breed was found in a village near Seville and captured by one of our partners with lots of love and patience. The one-year-old (as of 01/2022) Asterix was initially not at all happy about a human approaching, but our partners are experienced in handling shy animals and Asterix quickly realized that no one wants to harm him. Upon arriving at Arca, the world was naturally very stressful, loud, and he seemed very lost. Now, our funny Gallier with the beautiful nose has already discovered the advantages that life at the animal shelter offers. Regular meals, safe sleeping places, and the many two- and four-legged friends he has found so far are very welcome for Asterix, and he is delighted with every little attention. Guessing which breeds are hidden in this really special mixed breed can be an evening-long game for the whole family, but his nose is already impressively long - this could indicate participation of a running dog, that is a Podenco or Galgo, as well as Asterix's wonderful elegant body structure. His coat resembles that of a pointer and he shares the Labrador's calmness and love for cookies. We definitely have a fantastic unique animal here, who is waiting to enchant a family, experience 1000 colorful adventures with his new best friends, and conquer a comfortable couch. Asterix is a lovable young pup who is still in the middle of his adolescence and has a lot to learn. But the funny heartbreaker is extremely eager to learn, clever and wants to please. So Asterix now needs the right people for his start in life as a rising star in the neighborhood. Humor, patience and love - surely that's all it takes to make Asterix a real dream dog, but we have plenty of that. If you can't resist the cheeky look of our Gallier and have a cozy dog bed available for our charming teenager, feel free to contact our adoption officers. We look forward to seeing Asterix on one of the next transports and then following his certainly great development in our Happy-End group!

About Asterix

What life with Asterix looks like

Asterix is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Asterix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Asterix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Asterix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Asterix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Asterix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Asterix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Asterix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
