Astor

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Astor is a friendly, lively and extremely cheerful young male dog who loves human company and quickly brings good mood with his open nature. He is full of energy, wants to be active and discover the world. He also shows himself to be very social and uncomplicated with other dogs - he gets along well with his fellow dogs and really enjoys the company of other dogs. Astor is currently about 1 year old, about 60 cm tall and weighs around 26 kg. He is already a stately young dog who is still in the middle of his development. He would like to invest his energy in joint activities, exercise and varied occupation. At the same time, he needs people who show him with patience and loving consistency how life together works. Walking on a leash is practiced with Astor at his foster home. He still needs further training here. Also, life in a household with all its processes and rules will probably still be new to him. Housebreaking, leash training, driving, household noises, being left alone and waiting calmly are things he is allowed to learn step by step. A positively working dog school would be a good support. Astor's story began on the edge of a village. There he was found by our helper Raluca at the age of about 7 months. Unfortunately, dogs and cats are abandoned in this area again and again. We know nothing about his origin and his life before his rescue. Astor currently lives with Raluca in the foster home on a secure property mostly outside and together with almost 25 other dogs of both sexes and age groups. In the large dog group, he quickly found his way and shows himself to be very friendly and playful towards his fellow dogs. The many contacts with other dogs are a valuable experience for his development. A life in a family cannot replace the accommodation outside with Raluca, of course. We wish Astor active people who enjoy accompanying a young dog on his way to adulthood. He does not only want to be physically exhausted, but also to learn, discover and experience common things with his people. At the same time, enough rest should have its place in his daily routine, so that Astor can learn to switch off again after exciting experiences. Astor gets along very well with other dogs. He shows himself to be social and uncomplicated in dealing with his fellow dogs. A confident first dog could therefore be a nice addition for him, but is not a prerequisite. How he behaves towards cats has not yet been tested. Astor brings many wonderful prerequisites for a fulfilling dog life: He is friendly, human-oriented, active, playful and social. Now all he needs is a family that appreciates his joie de vivre and accompanies him with patience and joy to make the young dog a confident adult companion. Especially because his world has been relatively small so far, there is so much to discover for Astor. Astor travels neutered, chipped, vaccinated, dewormed and flea-free with his EU pet passport to his new home. After a positive preliminary check, he will be placed for a deposit. A loving foster home would also be a wonderful chance for Astor to get to know life outside the Romanian foster home. Many thanks Andrea M. for giving Astor his name. Status: 24.09.2026

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 24.09.2026

About Astor

What life with Astor looks like

Astor is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
