6.12.2021 foster home news: Astra visited the vet for a follow-up checkup and the results show that Astra has recovered well and is quite healthy for his age. The only concern is his kidneys, which means he must continue on a kidney diet and live in a low-stress environment. Astra himself is a healthy cat, plays alone and with the family, enjoys all kinds of mice and balls on the floor. He has very sharp eyes and a pleasant sleep. He moves confidently around the foster home, even when other adult cats are present. Occasionally, he even tries to hide and play with the younger cat in the family. Astral has had a difficult time the last five years, and we hope he can find a home where he can receive full attention. He is not a shy cat, but definitely likes being near people, lounging on the couch and in comfortable positions. The new owner should be aware that after some years, more attention might be needed for his health and to support his kidney function. Nevertheless, Astral still has a lot of spirit left and is worth it. * What a joy to see Astral now, after the post-operative period is over, resting and recovering from the discomfort of the removal of the tumors. All necessary procedures have been done for Astra (thank you to everyone who contributed to cover Astra's medical costs), and it's time to find a home for Astral where he can get used to a safe and regular lifestyle. For a 10+ year old cat, peace and quiet are important 😴. Because of his long street life, Astral has developed kidney insufficiency, and the doctor has given two mild but significant treatment prescriptions: 1. Medication food that supports his kidneys. This is easy to administer, like regular food. 2. A stress-free environment. Because of these two reasons, Astra is looking for a home where he would be rather a single cat, without small children and where he can lie on the couch and enjoy peace and quiet. Astra is not however a couch potato 😹. There is a moment during the day when he amuses himself with his playfulness even for the youngest kittens. Just give him a small mouse and ball and he jumps like a young cat ever.🧶 Astra was found on Karlova Street, where according to locals he has been wandering for 5 years. Initially, he was a stray and clearly a house cat that became unfortunate over the years. At the beginning of 2021, it was noticed that he was losing weight. During the summer months, a cat protection volunteer noticed that Astral was hanging something on his chest, and locals discovered that he was bleeding and had a tumor. Since no one wanted to adopt him, the volunteers had to catch Astra and take him to the vet. It was then discovered that he had a mammary tumor, which was immediately removed. Also, he was missing most of his teeth. The doctors estimate that Astral is about 10 years old, although he looks quite young and nice young lady. Today, Astra is recovering at the foster home. Astra seems increasingly friendly and curious. The painkillers have been completed, and now his kidneys are supported with the necessary nutrients and special food. Astra playfully interacts with a colorful toy and giggles loudly when the foster home's wife comes to his side. Every day he looks more lively and also younger. We believe he has several good years left to enjoy. Astra urgently needs donations to pay for the food and surgery and in October we will start looking for a home for him.
