Atenea

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Atenea – young mixed-breed female dog is looking for her chance Atenea currently lives in a Spanish animal shelter and belongs to the dogs about whom we know little so far. The caretakers are just getting to know her, and as with many shelter dogs, it takes some time to get a clearer picture of her character. Life in the animal shelter means stress, uncertainty, and many new impressions for most dogs. Consequently, they often only show a part of their true selves there. What is clear: Atenea is waiting to be seen and given the chance to find her own home. We know nothing about her past, her training, or her previous experiences. Her future humans should therefore be open to the fact that she may have a lot to learn – from dog 101 to daily routines and life as a family dog. Shelter dogs often need time, patience, and understanding to adjust to their new environment. Trust, security, and attachment do not develop overnight but grow step by step. For Atenea, we wish for people who are willing to accompany her on this journey and give her the stability that an animal shelter can never provide. Deciding to take on a dog means responsibility over many years. Anyone who wants to give Atenea this chance should be aware that a successful start requires not only love but also time, patience, and the willingness to learn together. We hope very much that Atenea will soon have the opportunity to leave her shelter life behind and finally find her place. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Atenea. At the moment, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Atenea's life.

About Atenea

What life with Atenea looks like

Atenea is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Atenea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Atenea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Atenea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Atenea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Atenea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Atenea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Atenea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
