adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Athos can stay forever in his foster home! His story: A true treasure on a discovery journey! Our charming caramel-colored Athos stands out with his soft, short, light brown and black marked fur and a beautiful eye appeal. The little guy looks lovingly and modestly into the camera and will surely grow into a beautiful, predictably medium-sized male dog. Athos is a lively, healthy, little puppy who hasn't yet learned much about the seriousness of life. He is friendly, open, and puppy-type playful. Athos loves to play and is now ready for playtime, although cuddles are also being requested. He is very eager to learn, and his walks now make him happy; he already runs well on the leash. This lively little male dog is always trying to please people. Athos was allowed to travel to Germany in late September to his foster family. With each day, progress can be felt, and he is already well settled. With lots of love, understanding, and positive reinforcement, he will surely quickly learn the Welpen-1×1. In a few months, the little male dog will enter puberty, which may undo everything he has learned so far. Rules will be questioned, and boundaries will be retested. Therefore, we recommend his new family to work with a positively working dog training class. Patient and loving training will strengthen his self-confidence, solidify his bond with his trusted people, and physically and mentally challenge him. Due to his appearance, we cannot rule out that he is a German Shepherd mix and may bring herding dog genes with him. Originally, the little Athos came from Baia Mare, Romania.

About Athos

What life with Athos looks like

Athos is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
