Adopt Athos

Male · Young · 1 year

Athos is a young dog who unfortunately pays the price for human decisions made too hastily. Given as a gift, he experienced a brutal change of life at a young age due to a divorce and financial difficulties, leading him to the shelter for the first time. Adopted with great hope, he is now back, not because of a lack of love, but because he did not receive the framework and support a young dog of his size truly needs. Athos was often seen as a big, affectionate teddy bear… but Athos, is also nearly 50 kg of love, energy, and enthusiasm that must be guided with gentleness, consistency, and kindness. Very social, he adores humans and greets them with a friendly jump, not realizing his strength. His former adopters unfortunately could no longer keep him on a leash properly, which gradually reduced his outings and his discoveries of the outside world. Yet, Athos remains a deeply endearing dog. Playful, affectionate, curious, and full of life, he just wants to learn and be guided serenely in his evolution. He is still a big baby in his head, a young dog discovering life and who will need humans ready to offer him a stable environment, positive education, and time to progress at his own pace. According to his former adopters, Athos is house-trained and does not destroy things. However, he will need to continue learning about solitude, managing his emotions, and daily manners. With invested, patient people who are aware that a dog of this size requires real support, Athos can become an extraordinary companion. Athos is therefore seeking an active, present family willing to invest with kindness in his education, without expecting him to be perfect immediately. In return, he will offer immense loyalty, unforgettable moments of complicity, and all the love he has to give.

About Athos

What life with Athos looks like

Athos is a young adult dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
