Athos (vermittelt)

Male · Senior · 12 years

Regarding the ages mentioned here, they are often estimated values as we do not always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. Athos Born March 2014 Gender male dog Breed sweet mix Size will be about medium foster home Athos is already rehomed! Unfortunately, due to a technical mishap, all photos were lost…. But thanks to the adopters and intensive research, we were able to find some again or new ones were sent to us. Many thanks to the adopters. This is the little Athos who, together with his two brothers and his mother, was rescued by local animal protectors and waited at a foster home for his travel arrangements. Thanks to a donation, we organized a rescue flight together with another animal protection organization from Germany on July 10th. He now has a wonderful new family and is fully integrated into everyday life (see post below). We wish Athos, who came to us as a puppy, and his new family all the best for the future and a worry-free time together. Post from the new home Dear Mrs. Schreiber, dear sc-dogs team, we are happy to send you a few photos of Athos, who has settled in very well. Our new center has everything a dog should have, and none of us want to miss him. His new dog friends, especially Sady (of course, she is Greek) from our neighbor, are also very enthusiastic. LG Tanja, Markus, Elena, and Athos More post from Athos Dear Elke, dear scdogsteam, I am now 6 weeks in my new home and wanted to drop you a quick note. I am doing great and feel very well. I think I am fitting in well here, …everyone likes me very much. I have grown a little and have gained almost 5 kilos, so I now weigh just under 20 kg…my Frauchen and Herrchen have lost a bit of weight due to the wonderful walks. I have now met many other dogs on walks…my best friend and playmate remains Sady (Zadora). In the house, I have claimed a great chair, and now I am allowed to sit on it.

About Athos (vermittelt)

What life with Athos (vermittelt) looks like

Athos (vermittelt) is a small senior dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athos (vermittelt), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athos (vermittelt)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athos (vermittelt) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athos (vermittelt) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athos (vermittelt) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athos (vermittelt) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athos (vermittelt) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
