Adopt ATLAS

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

ATLAS – lived on the streets and would so dearly love to find his new home! – Male dog, 7.5 years old, born 10/2018, shoulder height 62 cm, 24 kg, tested negative, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered. – Waiting in Spain! – Atlas needs to feel safe. He was born in October 2018. He truly has the perfect name, as he is like a complete set of maps—but in this case, emotional maps. Right now, Atlas feels fear, zest for life, love, sadness, loneliness, and hope. He wants to be happy, but first he must feel secure. His life story: Atlas lived on the street with two other dogs in one of the villages in the province of Seville; he is the only one now living at our animal shelter. The other male dog has passed away, and the female dog, who was pregnant at the time, now lives happily with her puppies in a family home. We rarely hear about the villages where abandoned dogs constantly appear. Where do they come from? Usually, there’s always a cruel person behind it. Atlas is a cautious dog. If you look at the photo where the volunteer offers him a treat to gain his trust, you’ll see the distance Atlas allows. He’s waiting to give love and trust, but it isn’t easy. What would you do if you’d spent so long invisible on the streets? He very much wishes to live a better dog’s life, which is why he keeps trying—but he needs more time. The animal shelter isn’t the right place for him; he needs a home and contact with people who can show him that our hands don’t just hit, but also caress and comfort. He is completely healthy and ready to become a family member. Atlas is vaccinated, tested negative for Ehrlichia, Filaria, and Leishmaniosis, and neutered. Includes veterinary costs, transport, and TRACES – Transport by land to Cologne or Karlsruhe. – Atlas is in the care of the Spanish organization Refugio escuela Marlene in Seville – I grant data sharing to all persons involved in animal welfare.

- Rüde, 7,5 J., geb.10/2018, SH 62 cm, 24 kg, neg.getestet, geimpft, gechippt, kastriert. - Wartet in Spanien ! Wo kommen sie her? About ATLAS

What life with ATLAS looks like

ATLAS is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tier-Not-Hilfe in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting ATLAS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ATLAS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tier-Not-Hilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ATLAS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ATLAS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tier-Not-Hilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ATLAS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ATLAS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tier-Not-Hilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know ATLAS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
