ATOS

Male · Adult · 7 years

Date of birth: 2019. He was taken in by intervention from previous owners. When he arrived at the animal shelter, he was extremely neglected and emaciated. In his previous home, he did not experience even a little empathy. He was kept in a coal cellar, cut off from the outside world and people. At the animal shelter, he gained weight nicely, but he still guards his bowl, fearing that he will be deprived of access to food. Only at the animal shelter did he start learning proper relationships with people and the world. He is an attentive student, quickly understanding that walking gives the opportunity to explore the world, discover many smells, and play. Currently, he fully uses these opportunities, making up for lost time. Initially, putting on and taking off the walking gear was very stressful for him. People whom he trusts do not have any problem with it now. ATOS is a very sensitive dog, needing a considerate, patient, and at the same time consistent caregiver, aware of his past and the need for further work with the dog. He accepts the muzzle, and bravely endures visits to the veterinarian in the company of a trusted caregiver. He is looking for a home without other animals and young children.

Data urodzenia: 2019 rok. Początkowo bardzo stresowało go zakładanie i zdejmowanie sprzętu spacerowego. Akceptuje kaganiec, w towarzystwie zaufanego opiekuna, dzielnie znosi wizyty u weterynarza. Szuka domu bez innych zwierząt i małych dzieci.

About ATOS

What life with ATOS looks like

ATOS is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, experienced owner due to past neglect and trauma. Food guarding behavior. Needs continued behavioral work.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting ATOS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ATOS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ATOS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ATOS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ATOS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ATOS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know ATOS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
