Avellana

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Avellana - gentle soul seeking her happiness Avellana is a beautiful mixed breed dog, likely also carrying guard dog genes. She arrived in a Spanish animal shelter in February 2026 - a place that is hardly suitable for such a sensitive and loving dog. After initial uncertainty, Avellana has cautiously settled in. Yet, like all the dogs there, she spends over 23 hours a day in the kennel and is only allowed out for a few minutes each day. It is all the more remarkable how well she has maintained her gentleness and affection for people. Avellana loves being near people. She enjoys every petting, gently gives kisses, and shows her loving nature at every opportunity. Despite difficult circumstances, she has preserved her joy of life. She now takes first walks and already walks nicely on a leash. During an outing with a family and a young girl, she showed her best side: calm, friendly, and simply happy to be there. Avellana also gets along very well with other dogs - whether male or female. She is a social, balanced dog who simply wants to belong. Avellana tested positive for Leishmaniosis, more information can be found on our information page. Our adoption officer will gladly advise you on this. Avellana is a true treasure - full of love that she finally wishes to give away. For her, we wish a loving home where she can arrive, find security, and be loved as a full family member. People who give her time to build further trust, and show her how beautiful a dog's life can be. Would you like to give Avellana this home? Please feel free to contact her adoption officer. Also, a foster home would greatly ease her start into a new life. Here goes Avellana's video

About Avellana

What life with Avellana looks like

Avellana is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Avellana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Avellana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Avellana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Avellana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Avellana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Avellana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Avellana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
