Avis

Mixed Breed · Female

Avis is a strikingly beautiful, almost two-year-old (as of June 2023) Border Collie female. When you see the fluffy, affectionate female dog with her gleaming long fur and her two-toned gaze, you wonder how such a dog ends up at ArcoNatura. Avis lived on the same abandoned field as Loki, forgotten by the owner, without access to food and water. When the animal welfare workers asked the owner to surrender the dogs, he no longer gave his four-legged companions a second glance. Avis was emaciated, matted, sad, and had a great fear of people. Now, the friendly princess has lived at ArcoNatura for about three months. Avis is still shy and reserved, but she has understood that in the animal shelter, her friends no longer face danger, that hands not only strike but also stroke, and that there is really something to eat every day. Every day, the clever, still young female dog thaws a little more—and we hope that she can soon start the life she so deserves. Avis needs people who can guide her onto the right path. She has fantastic potential to shine at a dog park or excel at dog dancing, but before you can work and train with Avis, you must show the insecure girl that it is worth trusting, loving, and knowing that she has reliable partners in her humans. Please apply for this in every way extraordinary female dog only if you are clear that Avis is a fearful herder. Even in the time you spend working to win Avis's trust, her beautiful mind needs mental stimulation and her already muscular body needs to be exercised. Creativity, patience, humor, and a lot of love are the path to the goal—while unrealistic expectations can only lead to disappointment. If you are looking for a highly intelligent companion, if you are ready to dedicate your heart and soul to our photomodel, if you want to see how a shy princess becomes a happy girl who plays and learns with joy, then we look forward to hearing from you!

DE·Show original

About Avis

What life with Avis looks like

Avis is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Avis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Avis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Avis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Avis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Avis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Avis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Avis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
