Adopt Axel

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Update 3.10.2025: Axel is one of three remaining brothers (his siblings Nash and Beckett complete the trio). They came to us as tiny pups and have spent their whole lives in the shelter. Born in May 2024, Axel is now just under 1.5 years old. He’s medium-sized and weighs around 18 kg. Just like his brothers, Axel is very people-oriented and absolutely loves all the affection and attention he can get. He’s a social boy, though large groups of dogs can sometimes overwhelm him. He much prefers spending time with his closest friends (like our sweet Alexia). Axel is wishing for a forever home with caring people who will give him the time, love and patience he needs to adjust. He still has to learn what life outside a shelter (and in a home) is like and with gentle guidance he will gain the confidence and trust he needs to truly thrive. In short: He’s looking for people who will love him unconditionally – just the way he is! He’s also very food-motivated, which makes him easy and fun to train. Do you think you might be the one? Make Axel’s biggest wish come true Who knows – he could spend this winter in his very own warm, loving home No Caption No Caption No Caption No Caption Update 28.04.2025: Handsome Axel is still looking for a home! Happy Axel was born May 2024. He is the brother of Nash, Becket, Griffin and Tyler. He is waiting in our shelter for a good and loving home. Their first days at the shelter. About Axel

What life with Axel looks like

Axel is a very small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Shelter-raised dog who needs time and patience to adjust to home life

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Axel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Axel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Axel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Axel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Axel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Axel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Axel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
