Baccara

Female · Adult · 7 years

Baccara was saved from a terrible situation when she was held in a fattening park in Soumagne. The mesh floor of the barn where she was collapsed, throwing her directly into the manure pit with several dozen others. The pigs on the farm remained trapped there for several hours and most of them died by drowning in their own excrement. The survivors of this tragedy were particularly affected and will have lasting effects for a long time. Baccara spent the first 48 hours at the shelter sleeping in a warm stall where she literally buried herself in the straw.

About Baccara

What life with Baccara looks like

Baccara is an adult bird waiting at Animaux en Péril ASBL in Belgium.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baccara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baccara?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animaux en Péril ASBL handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baccara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baccara if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a bird can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Animaux en Péril ASBL what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Baccara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a bird comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Animaux en Péril ASBL directly what is included and what Baccara still needs.
What happens if Baccara isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animaux en Péril ASBL early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baccara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
